Amed: Bali’s Undiscovered Scuba Paradise

Experiencing some of Indonesia’s most breathtaking scuba diving and pristine beaches doesn’t even require leaving the island of Bali. One of the island’s well-preserved secrets is Amed, delicately hugging the island’s northeastern coast. Sitting in the shadows of Bali’s largest volcano, Mount Agung, Amed’s famed black sand beaches are attributed to the volcanic deposit in the coastal soil, which differs significantly from the white sand throughout the rest of the island. Scuba diving is incredibly unique and accessible here, as divers enter the water from shore to discover the formoding underwater Japanese shipwreck, just 20 meters from shore, which has since become a haven for sea creatures to play hide n’ seek. Between its laid-back atmosphere, breathtaking scenery, and ease of accessible adventure, Amed is worthy of inclusion on any Bali itinerary.
