Türkiye closes 2023 with record-breaking tourism figures
Türkiye, one of the world’s leading tourism destinations, achieved record-breaking growth in 2023 by welcoming 56.7 million international visitors, marking a 10 per cent increase year-on-year. According to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the country’s tourism revenue also rose to $54.3 billion, a 17 per cent increase from the previous year.
In 2023, Türkiye was one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations for culture, art, gastronomy, cycling, religious tourism, as well as sea, sand, and sun holidays. Building upon this success, Türkiye aims to attract 60 million tourists and generate $60 billion in tourism income in 2024. With a focus on market diversity, Türkiye will continue its efforts in existing markets while targeting new markets in the coming years.

In 2022, Türkiye became the first country in the world to sign an agreement with the “Global Sustainable Tourism Council” (GSTC) at a government level. The expectations of the Council are now required across the country’s sector. The Türkiye Sustainable Tourism Program, resulting from this cooperation, recognizes and rewards practitioners of sustainable tourism, enhancing trust and credibility among visitors. The program offers diverse and sustainable experiences, including eco-friendly accommodations, cycling, and trekking, aiming to foster a deeper connection between Türkiye’s heritage and its visitors.
