Viking’s Japan Discovery Cruise
Japan’s fascinating blend of ancient traditions, timeless culture and modern innovation takes centre stage on Viking Cruises’ 15-day Japan Discovery voyage. Sailing roundtrip from Tokyo in 2028, the itinerary circumnavigates Japan while also crossing the Sea of Japan to Busan, South Korea.
The journey begins with two days in Tokyo, providing time to explore iconic landmarks, shrines and the city’s remarkable skyline. From there, the ship heads north to Sapporo, Aomori and Niigata, offering glimpses of Japan’s samurai heritage, geisha traditions and distinctive regional culture.
The voyage then crosses the Sea of Japan to Busan, where 17 centuries of Korean history, lively markets and scenic beaches await. Back in Japan, guests visit Hakata (Fukuoka) and Hiroshima, including the important Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, before continuing to Osaka, with the option of exploring historic Kyoto.
A highlight comes at Shimizu, where an overnight stay allows guests to admire spectacular views of Mount Fuji, explore tea plantations and visit Shiraito Falls. The ship then returns to Tokyo, completing a fascinating journey through Japan’s diverse landscapes and cultural heritage.
