New Rubenshuis Experience Centre and Garden
New Rubenshuis Experience Centre and Garden to open on 30 August 2024 Artist, marketeer, scientist, diplomat, and family man. Peter Paul Rubens was an extraordinary talent, but also a down-to-earth man. The Rubenhuis ( Rubens House) is where he lived and worked for much of his life, as well as being a place where he enjoyed a happy and voracious life.
The Rubenshuis experience centre and garden will re-open on 30 August 2024. Visitors will now be able to enter via its new entrance at 13, Hopland, where a brand-new building designed by Robbrecht & Daem architects provides the gateway to the Rubens Experience, its lush renovated Baroque garden, and its library. This marks the completion of the first phase of the renovation of the Rubenshuis.
The lush renovated Baroque garden, and the library provide a more expansive and accessible entrance to Ruben’s universe. The museum will focus more on experience and comfort. Using technology, visitors can immerse themselves in Rubens’s life and world in the Rubens Experience. The thousands of documents contained in the library about Rubens, can be viewed on demand by any member of the public upon request. The new garden has now become a green extension of Rubens’s city palace. The contemporary design features 17,500 plants and flowers and will flourish all year round, thanks to specialist colour advice by Antwerp fashion designer, Dries Van Noten. This verdant urban oasis also has a superb view of Rubens’s home.
